Sometimes we are so hyped that we want to change the world
at other times we are so down that we can barely move ourselves to do anything.
These up and downs are normal for most people but it is not a situation that
you want to normalize especially if at the end of your life, you want to have
achieved something.
Motivation, the feeling that’s gets you fired up can only
get you as far. Motivation after all comes from secretions from the brain and that’s
bound to be limited. You’ve got to develop systems that you initiate every time
you feel like you don’t have the energy to continue. Athletes have learnt to
perfect this no wonder they are able to perform at the top level for many years
without losing focus even in the worst of days.
The key is to such guaranteed success is building a routine
and one with a daily minimum i.e. things that you must do no matter what. The
good thing about this strategy is that everyone already has a daily minimum and
one that can be easily leveraged upon for greater success in life.
Here is an example of
a typical daily minimum for the average Joe
- Brush teeth
- Eat breakfast
- Make bed
- Shower
See, you already have such a system in place and all that
you have to do is to add something to this daily minimum. Some people hit the
gym every day, some people choose to never eat out, others choose to at least
practice on something, others to save and so on.
Choose you daily minimum and make sure that it is aligned to
your long term goals. That way, you don’t have to rely on being motivated to
make it in life.
Today’s two rules for success are;
Add your long term goals to your
daily minimum
Don’t rely on being motivated in
life, build discipline instead.
